About Scoopable

A free gelato and ice cream recipe calculator for people who make it at home.

What it does

Pick what you’re making, add your ingredients, and change any amount. Scoopable rebalances the rest so fat, sugars, solids, sweetness and scoopability stay in range. It also explains why when something can’t fit, and what would fix it.

Where the numbers come from

  • Target ranges come from published sources: H. Douglas Goff’s ice cream technology work at the University of Guelph, Carpigiani, Callebaut, gelato teaching, and US standards for frozen custard. Each template lists its sources.
  • Serving temperature is worked out from a freezing curve, with the Goff & Hartel method: the sugars and milk salts dissolved in the water that’s still liquid.
  • Balancing uses a mathematical optimiser: it finds the amounts closest to yours that keep every number in range.

Who makes it

Scoopable is built by a hobbyist ice cream maker who wanted numbers to trust, without a spreadsheet.
